As of 2020, Liberty Brew Tours is officially touring in South Jersey.  The LBTSJ series shares our first experiences with our new brewing partners !

King's Road Brewing - Wall + Beer

Overview

Our very first stop in South Jersey was in the extraordinarily adorable family-friendly town of Haddonfield, NJ.  As Philadelphia natives, we’re often not sure what to expect when we cross the bridge (or bridges), or just swim across the river.

Haddonfield looks like a town straight out of a hallmark movie.  One of the Lacey Chabert ones, probably.  Featured prominently on the corner of King’s highway right in downtown is King’s Road Brewing Company.  To say that it fits right in with the town motif is an understatement.  King’s moved in late 2019 to this location from just down the street, and the taproom is absolutely stunning.  You can see from our pictures below – without question, this is one of the most gorgeous breweries we’ve seen in any of our travels.  We met with co-owner Bob during our visit, who let us in on the history of King’s.  Their team has done an amazing job in every aspect imaginable.

The Beer!

After getting crushed by popularity and grand (re)opening events, King’s Road was down to 4 beers on tap during our weekday visit.  Not to worry though – stocks are back up.

Here’s what we had:

King’s Gold – An insanely crisp, clean blonde capable of appealing to both beer geeks and newcomers.

Saint Arnold – A Belgian Tripel showcasing a style that’s been in and out of favor with beer nerds.   This is among the best examples you can possibly find, and is a must-try even if you’re not a Belgian fan.

Strata Sphere – A relatively low ABV pale ale utilizing Strata hops.  Slightly dank, but mostly tropical and flavorful.

Potter Street  – Tahitian Vanilla beans add character to the roast aroma and taste.

The Liberty crew came to a (rare) consensus here.  Heavy beer geeks tend to trend towards bourbon-barrel stouts, sours, or big hazy IPAs.  However, the beers at King’s Road are some of the best examples of more grounded styles we’ve had in a long time.

Conclusion

This is a must-visit brewery no matter who you are.  The area is adorable; the beer is fantastic, and the spot itself is gorgeous.  Join us for a tour as soon as you can – we’ll probably be here already.
